About us

35th Norwich Sea Scouts : Sailing into Adventure

Nestled in the heart of Norwich, the 35th Sea Scout group has been a beacon of exploration and camaradarie for generations. Founded in 1951, our group has fostered a love for the water and instilled invaluable life skills in countless young people.

Our Mission

At the 35th Norwich, we believe in nurturing the spirit of adventure and self-discovery within our members. Through a carefully curated programme of activities, we aim to develop their confidence, teamwork, and leadership abilities, all while fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world and the rich heritage of our local area.

Our Activities

Our weekly meetings are a hub of excitement, where our dedicated team of fully trained volunteers guide our members through a diverse range of activities. From knot-tying and survival skills to engaging in water-based sports like Sailing, Kayaking and Rowing, we ensure that every session is both educational and exhilarating.

Beyond our regular meetings, we organise numerous outdoor adventures, including Camping trips, Hiking excursions, and paddlesports. These experiences not only strengthen the bonds within our group but also provide invaluable opportunities for personal growth and character development.

Our Community

The 35th Norwich is more than just a youth organisation; it's a vibrant community of like minded individuals who share a passion for the great outdoors and the thrill of exploration. We take immense pride in our inclusive and supportive environment, where members of all backgrounds and ability are welcomed and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Join us on this incredible journey and become part of a legacy that has shaped the lives of countless young people in Norwich. Together, we'll chart new courses , forge lasting friendships, and create memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Scouting helps young people learn skills for life, gain confidence and develop the desire to make their world a better place. The 'positive contribution' is based on our Scout values – this links us right back to the words of Baden-Powell who wrote: 'Teach Scouts not how to get a living, but how to live.'

Our young members are actively involved in their own development and not just passively part of Scouts (they don’t just do whatever is organised by others). We encourage our young people to have ideas about what they want to do in Scouts and that their ideas should make a difference.

Scouts is more than just having fun – it’s about stretching young people, so that they learn and develop in an enjoyable and practical way. 'Challenge by Choice' is at the heart of everything we do, meaning we will encourage the scouts to 'give it a go' but will never force them to do something that they are not comfortable with.

If you still think Scouting is just about boys, tents, knots and woggles, then you couldn't be further from the truth. With over 200 activities on offer, Scouting offers everyday adventure to all young people, regardless of gender, as well as our adult volunteers.

Of course Scouting still has some traditions, but so does the game of Football, that's not to say everything is done the same as it always has been and we continue to develop and adapt. (Football for example, didn't have an offside rule when it was invented!).  Today we focus on modern Scouting, providing a relevant balanced programme that is in keeping with what the young people of today expect.

Put simply - Scouting is an affordable way of providing a range of exciting and adventurous activities for your child.
