The current cost is £14pm & £7pm for any siblings in the same or different section,
payable by standing order on the 1st of every month
This covers things like your national scouting membership, insurances, maintenance of the HQ and equipment as well as things we use at our weekly meetings and badges.
There may be additional costs for things like, camps, instructor led activities and transport.
All of our sections are extremely busy and active.
Our young people earned nearly 1000 badges in 2024-25.
Scouting is where young people make new friends, have amazing adventures, and learn new skills.
Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers
Yes we do go camping, hiking, sailing, canoeing, climbing, abseiling.
Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development empowering them to make a positive contribution to society & to become the best version of themselves as possible
Scouting is about skills for life and so much more...
Take a look at our programme, events & news pages for other things we get up to.
To get started, reach out to a leader to see if spaces are available and find out more about us.
We are open to all and we can usually tweak things a little to make sure everyone can join the fun.
Alternatively click on the "Join us" button on the home page and someone will get back to you
The short answer is possibly,
It is only natural for you or a child to be slightly anxious when starting out on something new.
It can be quite daunting walking into a room with lots of people that we do not know
If you think your child would benefit from you staying for the first few sessions please talk to us. We will do whatever we can to put minds at ease.
During the first few weeks your child will need to learn their Promise & Law or motto.
When they are ready they are 'invested' into the section in a special ceremony that you are welcome to attend
There is of course the option to become a leader yourself, if you think this may be of interest to you simply talk to any leader or click the "Volunteer" button on the home page
Nights away, such as camping or sleepovers, are a key part of Scouting.
The number of times a year will vary between section but every child has the opportunity to attend at least one night away per year.
In 2023 the scout section had 5 camps with a total of 14 nights in tents outside and another night sleeping indoors at the headquarters.
All of our camps are great value for money and your young person will be offered activities on camps that they may not be able to do at a section meeting.
The majority of our camps are held close to home due to the high cost & logistics of transport further afield.
We are one of a eleven groups in the local area, all of which are part of the Eastern Norwich District. We often do events together such as Water activity camps, shooting or cooking competitions and the ever popular night hike.
Every group runs a Beaver, Cubs & Scout section and meetings are held at various times and days of the week.
There are unfortunately only 2 groups that currently has a Squirrels drey but we would be interested to hear from you if you would like to help us start one at the 35th Norwich, just speak to a leader and we can support you in this amazing opportunity.
Another section that some groups have is for the 14-18 year olds, known as Explorers, again if this appeals to you please reach out as we would very much like to offer this at the 35th.
For more information on other groups please use the Eastern Norwich button below
There are lots of ways in which you can have your voice heard
and even more for your child to have their voice heard.
All of our programme planning is based around both what the child wants and the experience of our leaders.
We constantly adapt and change our approach to ensure Scouting stays relevant & fun
We use annual questionnaires to find out what your child expects & wants to do at section meetings, we involve them in the planning process, especially in the older sections.
We have private Facebook groups & Whatsapp chats where we show parents what we have been upto and pass on important information, an instagram page highlighting our events to you and the wider community. We are currently investigating the possibility of starting a page on X (formerly twitter) and have are re-launching our regulare Newsletter "Oar Squeak"
As a parent you will also have digital access to their records allowing you to update any relevant information, personal details or permissions & declarations.
Most of all we encourage you to talk to us
Every year the Scout Association conducts and annual survey for all its young people as well as the volunteers and every parent / carer.
We also have a board of trustees which any parent / carer can apply to join, giving you the opportunity to influence the direction of the group.
We hold an annual general meeting (AGM) where you will get to see the accounts, hear a review of the year from the Group Lead Volunteer, ask questions and vote on things where applicable.
Scouting is for everyone and the 35th is proud to a part of it & to help develop our young people, allowing them to grow as individuals and as a group.
We know that if you've got a young person in your care with additional needs, doing something new can be scary
For both of you!
We pride ourselves on our inclusivity and we do our best to make sure all our members take part. There is a lot of flexibility within the programme to meet individual need, whether that be a disability, neurodiversity, or an educational, mental health or medical need.
We like to think that we can really get to know both your child and you and can work together to make sure of the best possible outcomes
We operate on an ethos of challenge by choice, meaning that we will always encourage your young person to take that next big step or to take part in things even when they do not quite feel ready.
We will stretch them but we promise not to break them!
Essentially very little. Every scout, be it Land, Air or Sea do the same type of activities and follow the same kind of programme and they all earn the same badges.
We may wear different colour uniforms & there may be a slight emphasis on certain activities depending on the type of group,
Sea Scouts may do more water based activities, Land Scouts may do more hikes and hill walking but we are all part of the same....
worldwide family of more than 57 million like minded friends across 216 countries and territories.
